[SOLVED] Mouse pad not working in Ubuntu on power plugged in

Well, my brother had a laptop of HP(forgot the model). He had Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and Windows 7 installed. When ever he used to plug in his power cable, the mouse pad on his laptop stopped working. After the power cable is pulled off, there was no problem regarding such disability. We tested the command:

dmesg

And saw the device record, but nothing seems that Ubuntu got the problem. But in windows, we got no problem. Then we tested the power supply on the charger and found that the Ubuntu need sufficient amount of power that couldn’t be provided by the charger.

Also, we tested the PC with my HP charger, and found that it was working fine. So, you may say what’s the point that it was solved. But I am waring you about the change time of your charger. Or just use the windows and be a dumb.

[SOLVED] Gimp not launching on Kubuntu 11.04

My friend loved the Ubuntu 10.10 because of gnome, but he loves to get upgraded so he upgraded and got the unity and told that he didn’t loved that. So he installed a fresh Kubuntu 11.04. Then while he started gimp, he found the following problem:

And asked me to help. Well as usual I searched for the solution over the internet but didn’t got the actual solution so I tried to mix up all the solution and concluded to a final solution that worked on my friends PC.

– change GTK+appearance to Rayleigh
– start Gimp and stop it
– change GTK+ appearance back to oxygen.

This process may apply to any other program. Hope this solution works for you.

Many people told me that they didn’t loves the new Natty as it has introduced Unity. I the same case going, my friend told that he hated that their is no menu category so that user can get the exact location. I viewed different location, Ubuntu forums about that and most told that they where also unable to see the category. So you but the category are just near you.

[SOLVED] Battery icon lost on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal

Well friends, my friends had the older version of Ubuntu 10.10 on his laptop Lenovo.  He told that he upgraded his Ubuntu as I told him that natty is the worst you will ever see but he finally upgraded. I told that I didn’t liked the Unity introduced as the default look. So I searched for a lot, but didn’t got any solution. So then I logged out and selected for the “Gnome” look during login screen And I got the battery with all the information that I needed. And he was happy. But that was not just the solution I was happy with.

So I just went back to unity and you might be willing to work on unity as the major change on Natty was the Unity. So here is the solution. Open your terminal and type the following:

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:iaz/battery-status && sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install battery-status

Now just log out if necessary, you will get your detailed battery status.

Date stuck on ubuntu though the next day already started

Wow, this day using ubuntu alpha state is really boring. I cannot get updated cause my date isn’t being updated. I mean the developer has developed the Time state, but the forgot to update the date. If you start your PC then their you see the change in date as it is loaded once, but in the panel you cannot see the update of the date. Yesterday, I forgot to close my PC and the same happened to me.

If you want to update the date without restart, you can goto Time & Date Settings. Then unlock the change settings. After that change the date and then close the window. You get the change.

I am using Ubutnu 11.04 Natty Narwhal on 64 bit Laptop.
